Biospecimen Repository

The biospecimen repository of our hospital was established in 2007, supported by special funds from the Health Commission of Zhejiang Province and provincial governor. The biospecimen repository is specialized in the collection, processing, storage, quality control, information improvement, ex warehouse and management of various biological samples. It also carries out biological sample research, provide sample quality control and production, and other technical services. The collected samples and information are open to the whole hospital, the whole province and the whole country. The building area of the biospecimen repository is more than 500 m2, with 8 full-time staff. More than 6 million yuan has been invested in all kinds of equipment to meet the basic needs of sample collection, processing, storage and quality control. The specimens of the repository are indexed with laboratory information management system (LIMS) for convenient sharing of the specimens of the repository. The biospecimen repository adheres to the concept of "standardized management, quality assurance, shared use and value creation". A complete management system and SOP documents have been formulated, and efforts have been made to build a new biospecimen repository of standardization, informatization, automation, intelligence, sharing and value.

Now, the biospecimen repository is the member unit of "National Technical Committee for standardization of biological samples", member unit of "Biobank Branch of China Medicinal Biotech Association", member unit of "Cancer Sample Integration Research Branch of China Anti-Cancer Association", member unit of "Professional Committee of clinical data and sample database of Chinese society of research hospitals", and one of the initiators of "China Biobank Alliance". And we participate in the preparation of six national standards, including “general requirements for quality and capacity of biobank (GB/T 37864-2019)”.

By the end of 2020, the biospecimen repository has stored nearly 22,342 patient samples, including tissue and blood, etc. For the past 5 years, the biospecimen repository provided sample services for nearly 320 projects.
