Our physician team Expertise

Our department is national-renowned for using and developing front-line diagnostic technology and treatment strategy on patients with lung cancer, esophagus cancer as well as other thoracic malignancies. That lets physicians pinpoint each patient’s unique cancer and tailor treatment for the best possible outcome. The amount of discharging patient reaches 10,000 person-times per year. Our investigations involve many of the most promising molecularly-targeted agents and immunotherapy including checkpoint inhibitors currently known. New and innovative therapies generally are available in our department. In recent years, we have participated in more than 80 international and domestic multi-center clinical studies. Our depth of experience contributes to every aspect of patients' care. As the first demonstrative wards for cancer pain treatment, it leads to palliative treatment for cancer in China.

Scientific research and Awards

In addition to providing patients with the best possible cancer care, our department maintains an extensive research program. As a key member of “Zhejiang Key laboratory for Thoracic Tumors”, our physician team has been focusing on translational research, aiming to bridge the gap between the laboratory and the patient to ensure therapy is personalized. Adhering to the concept of combining standardized treatment with individualized treatment in clinical work, we adopt the most advanced international research progress and our clinical experience to formulate standardized and individualized treatment for patients. The department was supported by more than 30 research grants in the recent five years with 6 national natural science foundations of China. We publish about 30 peer-reviewed papers in journals such as “clinical cancer research” and “oncogene” each year. The research results have been frequently presented in international academic conferences as oral presentations and posters. Our team has achieved breakthroughs in brain metastasis of lung cancer, resistant mechanisms of targeted therapy, as well as other research fields. We have received several national and provincial scientific and technological progress awards. The director of our department, Prof. Yun Fan has awarded the Second Prize of National Science and Technology Progress in 2019.

Teaching and training

Inspiring, training, and mentoring the next generation of physicians is a vital aspect of the Thoracic Medical Oncology Department’s mission. As a Zhejiang standard training base of medicine, our department offers advanced education and training for clinical fellows and graduate students from medical colleges and universities across the country. A full calendar of scientific lectures, symposia, and special events helps to spark interaction among trainees, students, and faculty mentors. A total of 2 or 3 national continuing education projects and 1 or 2 nationwide academic conferences are organized annually. These offerings provide comprehensive and unique curricula at the intersection of the biomedical sciences and the management of cancer. The nursing team implements an integrated nursing model and has extensive experience in fine vein management.
