Gynecologic Radiation Department was founded in 1963 at the same time as the establishment of our hospital—Cancer Hospital of the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences(Former Zhejiang Cancer Hospital). As one of the first established and renowned gynecologic radiation centers in China, it is well known by its multidisciplinary treatment mode and medical culture with 18 gynecologic oncologists and 41 nurses experienced with gynecologic radiation skills and patients care. We devoted more than half a century to patient care as well as to clinical and basic research, making significant contributions to developing comprehensive therapies for patients.
Our Expertise：
Our department has 2 wards receiving around 4000 inpatients of cervical cancer as well as other gynecological malignancies and serving nearly 80000 outpatients each year. With the development of new technologies and accelerators, we are able to offer a full range of both conventional and high-technology radiation treatment for patients, external beam radiotherapy including intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT), Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy (VMAT), Tomotherapy (TOMO) and stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT). Individualized radiotherapy is precisely served for those young patients who expect to keep the ovarian function.
As a characteristic treatment for patients with gynecologic cancer, Brachytherapy has a very long history in our department, radioactive source started from Radium to Cs137 and Ir192. As the local center of Brachytherapy, we have the latest Elekta Flexitron afterloading treatment machine, oncentra brachy three-dimensional treatment planning system and other different kinds of applicators suitable for various situations. Traditional two-dimensional brachytherapy has been applied in our department as well as CT-guided brachytherapy, interstitial brachytherapy and other complex techniques of brachytherapy are emerging as another line of important therapeutics for our patients in the recent two decades.
We also provide chemotherapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy and endocrine therapy. By working in a multidisciplinary team mode, we develop individualized treatment for many patients. We not only participated in more than 10 international and domestic multicenter clinical trials, but also initiated many clinical and basic researches.
As a member of Sisters Hosptial of MD Anderson，we are authorized to hold national communication meetings in gynecologic radiation and keep a close academic contact with renowned internationally experts. Young doctors were dispatched as visiting scholars in top medical institutions both in China and abroad. We have established long-term cooperative relationships with the world’s top medical institutions such as JFCR in Japan and MD Anderson in USA，etc.
Our department has carried out more than 30 research projects and published over 50 papers in prestigious domestic and international journals in the last 5 years, including more than 20 SCI papers.
Our Mission:
We have been dedicated to the prevention and treatment of gynecological neoplasm and providing better service for patients and explore more efficient anti-cancer strategies to improving the whole level of cancer treatment strategy, we are also devoted to establishing the local guidelines. We also have a very professional and experienced team of nurses who provide all kinds of patient care and rehabilitation guidance to patients.
