The endoscopy department has missions of research, education,patient care,and prevention for women and men diagnosed with digestive and respiratory tumors.
Endoscopy department is dedicated to improve early diagnosis rateof the upper gastrointestinal tract cancer and endoscopic minimally invasiveresection level of respiratory tumors with advanced equipment, diagnostic and treatment technology and consummate skill. Pathological tumor sample was obtainedby endoscopy to cooperate with other oncology departments and Institute of Cancer and Basic Medicine (ICBM), Chinese Academy of Sciences, in tumor pathogenesis, diagnosisandtreatment.

Our Mission: To reduce the suffering of digestive and respiratory cancer patients. To provide new knowledge through research, clinical care, cancer prevention and education.
Our team of specialists treats patients with tumors of esophagus, stomach, duodenum, colorectum, pharynx, and lung using multiple endoscopic modalities. In the department, a highly qualified staff teamwith special expertise in digestive and respiratory oncology offers patients the latest and most effective treatment options（Fig.1）. Endoscopy department comprises two subsections which provide focused centers of excellencefor the treatment of patients and development of research.

Section of Endoscopy in Digestive Oncology
Experts in the section of endoscopy in digestive oncology have extensive experience with endoscopic diagnosis and treatment in early cancer of digestive tract (esophagus, stomach, duodenum and colorectum). In Zhejiang Province, we have always maintained a leading level in early cancer detection rate, treatment of difficult endoscopicsubmucosal dissection (ESD), and standard treatment and handling of ESD pathological specimen.
In addition to the superiority in early diagnosisandtreatment under endoscopyfor digestive tumors including both benign and malignant tumors, we specialize in the following endoscopic procedures:endoscopic removal of various digestive tract polyps, stent placement for various types of digestive tract tumor obstruction,biliary stent implantation by ERCP，endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR)and ESD for early digestive tract cancer,balloon dilatation of anastomotic stenosis, percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy, enteral nutrition tube placement, endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration (EUS-FNA) for intraluminal and extraluminal masses of esophagus, mediastinum, stomach, perigastric, pancreas and rectum. Dr. Shi Wang creatively invented a new bipolar knife，which has been successfully applied in ESD operation and dramatically increased the safety of ESD treatment（Fig.2）.

At the same time, relying on the comprehensive strength of the cancer hospital, combined with the professional level of surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy, we ensure that patients with cancer can receive standardized treatment, and prolong the long-term survival. In addition, some new techniques for tumor treatment, such as photodynamic therapy for advanced tumors, are being pioneered in the province.
Section of Endoscopy in Respiratory Oncology
Experts in the section of endoscopy in respiratory oncology provide high-quality patient care. Core services include endobronchial ultrasound-transbronchial needle aspiration (EBUS-TBNA) biopsy, transbronchial needle aspiration (TBNA) biopsy, removal of tracheobronchial foreign bodies, resection of benign and malignant tracheobronchial tumors via bronchoscopic techniques, electrosurgerybyargon plasma and laser, tracheobronchial stent implantation, tracheobronchial balloon dilatation, minimally invasive resection of laryngeal benign tumor (vocal polyp, laryngeal cyst, pharyngeal and laryngeal papilloma, etc), removal of pseudomembrane after radiotherapy for nasopharyngeal carcinoma, nasal irrigation, etc.
In recent years, with booming development of artificial intelligence (AI), endoscopy department positively collaborates with domestic well-known AI companies on intelligent medical service. Substantial preliminary basic work has been done and fruitful results have been achieved. In the near future, this technology will be popularized and applied in Zhejiang Province, especially the standardization and intelligence of endoscopic image shooting.
