The first fourth-generation Da Vinci surgical robot in Zhejiang Province has been completely installed at the Cancer Hospital of the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (Zhejiang Cancer Hospital, CHUCAS). Representing the world’s top level of equipment in Zhejiang Province, the surgical robot successfully completed the first radical surgery for gastric cancer not long ago. Under the operation of Dr. Xiangdong Cheng, a famous oncology surgeon in China and the academic leader in the diagnosis and treatment of gastric cancer in Zhejiang, the surgery was a success.

Dr. Cheng can control the robot's arm by opening only five keyhole-sized operation holes in the patient's abdomen. The control lever turns over flexibly in the abdominal cavity, threading the needle and completing the resection, which perfectly demonstrates the minimally invasive characteristics and functions of the fourth generation Da Vinci surgical robot. “The surgical image of the fourth-generation Da Vinci robot can be magnified 15 times, as clear as a 3D movie, and the doctor can feel as if he is in the abdominal cavity of a patient,” Dr. Cheng said.

The Da Vinci robot will play an important role in complex surgeries because it exhibits higher flexibility, better accuracy and fewer traumas than a real human. “We will also take the opportunity of introducing the use of surgical robots to promote the healthy development of disciplines construction, talent training, and medical research. We will play a leading role in constructing the national regional medical center of oncology to benefit more patients.” Dr. Enyan Yu, the Secretary of the Party Committee of CHUCAS said.
